One of the biggest challenges of Modern Day Parenting is how to keep the children away from the idiot box and things linked to it. When Vandana & I first became parents 6 ½ years ago, this became a big challenge for us. Both of us came from a family of scholars, ( Vandana is still a one but I don’t think I have lived up to the expectations).One thing though that especially my father was able to pass on to me was passion for reading. Both Vandana and I love books. And Movies, Music & Dance. Books remain our top most priority.

As soon as Vardaan could understand what Vandana was  telling him,  he realized apart from parents or girls next best thing to fall in love are books. He could read when he was three and by the time he was 5  he could tell us and his teachers at school, names of Mars’s  two moons. He continues to bomb both of us with information every day .Part of the night is spent reading up books which he is currently reading. Naomi who will turn 4 in three days and is fast catching up with him.

While we struggle with reader ship, can we at least  as parents influence our kids to stay away from idiot box and fall in love with reading.?IDEA Cellular is already propagating death of publications at large.

By the way, do you know a Kadahi with  Garm  Aloo Tamatar ki Sabji resembles Volcano Crater full of Magna? How many of us can name  Mars’s two moons without Googling the same and better still how many of us know that Mars has two moons?
